Laurence’s love of nature has been with him for as long as he has been able to walk. He started helping his grandparents and other family members in their gardens, gaining knowledge and skills. By the time he was 13, he was looking after 5 gardens single handedly. Laurence has over 15 years of gardening experience as well as being a qualified Tree Surgeon.
His passion evolved from a hobby, to a career, when he attended Writtle College studying Amenity Horticulture. His passion, morals and ambition, led to the establishment of Maple Tree Surgery & Landscapes Limited. Laurence wanted to work for himself promoting the use of sustainable practices and products in all of his work. This remains the underpinning of the firm.
Laurence truly believes that timber has the most environmental benefits over other building products. It is biodegradable, works efficiently as an insulator and remains 100% renewable.
These days Laurence is involved in expanding the good name of Maple Tree and Landscaping Limited, and concentrates on the Landscape Consultancy Service as well as our brand new service line – supplying bespoke and slab timber.
Danny was formerly an Oil Broker but has swapped his tie for a pair of muddy work boots. Danny is in charge of the day-to-day running of the business, the jobs, the team and most importantly the customers.
Danny is passionate about customer service and keeps the whole team motivated and organised to ensure both clients and staff are always happy. Danny is very hands on as a manager and is not frightened to roll up his sleeves when necessary.
Tom is a highly qualified Tree Surgeon with over 15 years experience of tree felling and surgery. Tom, much like Laurence, has a passion for timber and is a highly sought after Tree Surgeon with an eye for detail when pruning.
Maple Surgery is proud to work with such an experienced woodman, who has worked overseas on a variety of projects and excellent tree knowledge.
James attended Whittle College and studied Soil Science. James’ career highlight was when he worked on a major landscaping project with the firm which was aired on the BBC, Big Dreams, Small Spaces.
James doesn’t leave any stone unturned and puts his all into everything he does. He is part of the garden maintenance team and is very customer focussed and delivers a high end result.
Brian joined Maple Tree Surgery as our specialist patio consultant but we have subsequently found that he has many other hidden talents asides. He specialises in laying slab patios and block paving and is a trusted member of the team.
Brian also very hands on with a number of projects and can assist with all types of fencing, garden decking and most masonry work.
Miles joined the firm as part of the Shaw Trust, through the R.I.S.E. enterprise. The Shaw Trust is a national charity providing employment opportunities, to help people with disabilities find work. From the day he joined the company he fast became one of our hardest working employees.
Miles assists when necessary in all departments and has proudly been with the firm now for over 12 months as a full time employee – His skillset continues to grow daily.

As the team expanded and roles changed, there was a growing need for an organised and efficient team secretary. Carlo has now worked for the company for over 1 week from the Southend office, and assists both Laurence and Danny with all the company’s administrative needs.
Our resident dog Coco, adopted by Laurence in 2011, is passed away on Tuesday 18 April 2017 in the yard doing what she enjoyed the most:
Coco enjoys playing outside and seeing what she can sniff out in the yard.
She is also keen on belly rubs and playing in mulch!
